The Lowdown
Supper club is a relatively new phenomenon. Supposedly invented in Cuba, the idea is to open up your own home to paying customers as a kind of informal restaurant. Initially a word of mouth thing, supper clubs in London have received major press coverage of late, perhaps blossoming out of entrepreneurial amateur cooks' desire to make a quick buck on the side in these harsh economic times. Guests are usually expected to bring their own drink with them and rather than a set price, are occasionally asked to make a donation at the end of the evening.
The Crowd
Supper clubs are an antidote to those who find the dining scene a little stuffy and long for a new experience. The element of surprise makes it one of the most fun things to do in London. Often you won’t know what’s on the menu until you arrive and the chances are you won’t know many of your fellow diners either. In a setting far more intimate than a commercial premises, the supper club bridges the gap between dinner party and restaurant, making it an ideal way to meet new people without having to cook or do the dishes afterwards.
The Cost
Our TasterLab tasters will give you a great deal on attending a supper club. You’re only expense may be bringing your own booze.
