At a glance:
● Easy to pick-up
● Great exercise
● Hard to master
The Lowdown
Paddle boarding is like a more sedate cousin of surfing. With a board that’s about twice the size, getting onto your feet is a whole lot easier. Once you’re up there, you use a paddle to propel yourself through the water, like a streamlined, cooler version of canoeing. That’s not to say it’s all plain sailing, top paddle boarders will take their boards into huge waves and mix it with the best surfers around.
The Crowd
Paddle boarding is not only a whole lot of fun but also great exercise. You’ll build up leg and core strength as you adjust the weight of your body in the water to keep balance, and your paddle work will give your arms a complete workout. Don’t be put off if you’ve never tried water sports before, paddleboarding is a great place to start as mastering the basics is relatively easy. How far you go after that is up to you.
The Cost
Get your first taste of this innovative water sport with TasterLab. And if you’re hungry for more, boards start from £600 or so with paddles from £60 and up.
And Finally...
To show the miracles that can be performed in this sport, here’s Vetea David with a peerless example of paddle boarding.
