The Lowdown

Landboarding may be the most popular term, but the sport’s other name, kite landboarding gives you more of an idea of what it’s about. This exhilarating sport involves a power kite and a mountain board, which is a bit like an overgrown, off-road skateboard. You strap yourself onto the board as the kite harnesses the power of the wind and pulls you along. And once you get good there’s a whole host of jumps and tricks you can perform. Just remember to wear a helmet and other safety gear as you might get some bumps and bruises along the way.

The Crowd

Landboarding is like a landlubber’s version of kite surfing, so if you’re a fan of that extreme sport but don’t have any water handy, kite landboarding is ideal. Also anyone who wants to test their kite skills or skateboarders excited by new things to do in London will get a kick out of kite landboarding. With both your kite and your balance to worry about, it’s not the easiest sport to master, but once you get the knack it’s hugely rewarding.

The Cost

The best place to start in landboarding is with a TasterLab taster to give you a chance to get to know the equipment before investing in your own. When buying your gear you can get a stunt kite for around £100 and a landboard closer to the £150 mark. Add a helmet and some protective gear, and for £300 you’re ready to go.
