The Lowdown
Climbing in its most basic form is using your hands, feet and any other part of your body that might help to ascend objects. Within that you’ve got something as simple as climbing trees, to the daredevils who scale office blocks with little regard to their own safety. If you’re in the city the chances are you’ll be doing indoor climbing. Whole centres are dedicated to this with large climbing walls of various difficulties. With the protection of a harness, it’s up to you to plot your route up the rock face, picking out hand and footholes and using your strength to haul yourself up.
The Crowd
Climbing is one of the most fun things to do in London. You need strategy and strength to conquer an indoor climbing wall so you’ll be giving your body and mind a great workout. If you’re just starting out, a climbing centre is a great way to dip your toe in the water to see if it’s really for you and to meet fellow enthusiasts. If you catch the bug, a whole world of adventure in the great outdoors awaits, giving your holidays an exciting new aspect.
The Cost
Our TasterLab tasters will give you a great price on indoor climbing in London. Once you’ve had a taste you might want to invest in some of your own equipment. Your first stop will be a pair of climbing shoes which will set you back around £60. As you become more independent check with a climbing centre for advice on other equipment, like ropes and karabiners.
And Finally...
Here's a tutorial on some rock climbing basics to give you an idea of what indoor climbing is all about.
