The Lowdown

Bass guitar lessons are a great way to try something new and unlock the rock star hiding in all of us. Those four low strings form the bedrock of any band. Slap them, pluck them, or use a plectrum or pick, bass guitar classes will teach you a host of techniques. It shares the same tuning as its more formal cousin, the double bass, which it has replaced in most forms of popular music. There are a host of different designs but the classic bass guitar shape for beginners remains the Fender Jazz Bass.

The Crowd

Bass guitar lessons will qualify you for a spot in just about any band you can think of, and playing in a band is one of the most fun things to do in London. Whether you’re inspired by the disco of Chic’s Bernard Edwards, or the rock of The Who’s John Entwistle, bass guitar lessons can help you sound like your hero. And who says guitarists should get all the solos? Bassists like Jaco Pastorius  showed the bass guitar can be a lead instrument in its own right.

The Cost

A bass guitar for beginners is available for less than £100 for the electric model and 15W bass amplifiers can be found for as little as £50. The cables you need are inexpensive and easy to find at any guitar shop. An acoustic bass will set you back a little more, around £200 for a beginner’s instrument.
